The works will be conducted in 2 stages, with stage 1 having started on 15 October 2018. The stage 1 works will focus on the northern end of Spit East, near the foreshore. It will deliver a new laneway, a new indented bus bay, traffic calming, new signage, bike hoops and some landscaping. Stage 2 is set to commence in February/March 2019. The stage 2 works will focus on the southern end near the commercial area. It will deliver an upgraded laneway and footpaths, new car parking, a new loading zone, signage and landscaping. There will be a four day period of nightworks commencing on 24 October 2018, with a respite period over Friday and Saturday nights. Nightworks will take place between 8:30am and 5pm, with all noisy works completed by 11pm.
Landscaping will be conducted as part of the works. 7 trees will be removed and 21 new trees will be planted. The net gain of 11 trees will replenish the landscape and create a more inviting and thriving open space.
