Civic Centre Main Switchboard Upgrade
Council’s contractor, Elec Comm Group, will commence works associated with the Civic Centre Main Switchboard Upgrade from Monday 14 September 2026.
The works will be undertaken progressively and will include electrical, civil and switchboard installation works within and around the Civic Centre.
What to expect
Works will generally be undertaken between 6am and 9am and may involve:
- Installation of new electrical cabling throughout the Civic Centre.
- Civil excavation and trenching to install new underground electrical infrastructure.
- Installation of a new main switchboard and electrical distribution equipment.
- Construction noise associated with drilling, cutting, excavation and other construction activities.
- Temporary changes to pedestrian and vehicle access around the Civic Centre.
- Temporary loss of parking spaces in affected areas.
- Temporary closure of the eastern laneway adjacent to the Civic Centre during civil works.
- Temporary fencing, barriers and signage around work areas.
- Minor dust and vibration associated with excavation and construction activities.
Some areas within the Civic Centre may have restricted access while works are being undertaken.
Temporary power outages
Temporary power outages will be required as part of the electrical cutover works.
The current program includes two planned power interruptions during the works. The timing of these outages is subject to Ausgrid approval and will be confirmed closer to the time.
A temporary generator will be used during the cutover works to maintain power to the Civic Centre for most of the outage period. Temporary power interruptions of approximately one hour are expected during the changeover.
Further notifications will be provided to building users once the timing of the power interruptions has been confirmed.
